MY ROLE
Learning Designer
THE CHALLENGE
UTS Business School required the redesign of more than 30 second-year business degree subjects delivered through its international partnership with SILC Shanghai.
Subjects had evolved independently over time, resulting in inconsistent learner experiences, varied navigation structures and limited use of Canvas LMS functionality. The project required a scalable approach that would improve the student experience while maintaining academic quality across a large portfolio of subjects.
MY APPROACH
Reviewed existing subject content, tutorial activities and Canvas site structures to identify opportunities for improvement and increased learner engagement.
Designed a learner-centred experience focused on active participation, collaboration and self-paced learning.
Developed interactive H5P activities, redesigned learning materials and created structured activity templates to support flexible delivery.
Delivered a site-wide Canvas refresh and migrated content into a consistent, user-friendly format.
Implemented navigation, layout and visual design standards to improve usability and create a more cohesive learner experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducted a review of the existing Canvas site and learning materials.
Designed and developed interactive H5P learning activities.
Replaced static tutorial content with engaging self-paced learning experiences.
Developed reusable templates for tutorials, group work and learning activities.
Introduced a consistent visual design and navigation structure.
Managed the project from planning and analysis through implementation and evaluation.
Evaluated the effectiveness of the redesign and identified opportunities for ongoing enhancement and continuous improvement.
THE IMPACT
The project transformed a traditionally content-focused subject into a more interactive and engaging learning experience by introducing H5P activities, structured teamwork exercises and self-paced learning opportunities. Students were provided with clearer navigation, more consistent learning materials and increased opportunities to apply concepts through collaborative activities. The redesign also established reusable templates and activity frameworks that could support future subject delivery while improving the overall quality and professionalism of the Canvas learning environment.
